Schema of tuberoplasty for varus malunion of surgical neck fracture. (A) Intact proximal humerus. (B) Varus malunion results in a medialized greater tuberosity and effectively decreases the resting tension in the rotator cuff. As a result, force generation is compromised. (C) The rotator cuff is detached, and a tuberoplasty is performed with a burr. (D) Reattachment of the rotator cuff laterally results in restoration of the rotator cuff length–tension relation.
